On October 28, 2026, ServiceNow and OpenAI announced an expanded partnership: a ServiceNow MCP plugin is now available in the OpenAI marketplace, letting enterprise users handle ServiceNow workflows directly inside a ChatGPT conversation instead of switching apps.
The plugin brings business context and workflow actions into the chat. IT staff can look up similar incidents, assess change risk and update ServiceNow records, while ServiceNow's Action Fabric enforces each organization's existing rules and permissions, with actions executed and recorded inside ServiceNow. The companies also plan to bring ServiceNow workflows into Codex and OpenAI models into more ServiceNow products.
What ships now is the plugin; security and voice come later
The security and risk offering, voice interaction and deeper Codex integration are not part of the first delivery. Under the published timetable, the security capabilities enter early access in January 2027 and reach general availability in the second quarter, voice features are expected in the first quarter of 2027, and Codex in AI Workflow Factory is planned for 2027. The companies disclosed no new contract value.
Permission mapping is the real test
The point of this partnership is not the chat interface but whether permissions follow users into ChatGPT unchanged. Each enterprise must choose which capabilities to expose in its own ServiceNow instance; a wrong configuration turns convenience into overreach. Both companies are starting internally: ServiceNow plans to give all employees ChatGPT Work and Codex, while OpenAI will run ServiceNow across its own operations. The expansion builds on a multi-year agreement the two companies signed in January 2026, and OpenAI is a founding member of ServiceNow's new Control Tower Alliance.
