Oct 5 AI Briefing: ChatGPT Tests Visual Ads, Schneider to Buy PTC for $22.6 Billion

AI News Briefing • Admin • • 3 views

The October 5 AI briefing starts with commercialization: ChatGPT is testing visual ads inside image generation, industrial software and chip patents each saw a major deal land the same day, and Qwen's first AI earbuds opened for pre-order. All four items below were published or announced on October 5, 2026.

ChatGPT visual ads start testing in the US this month

OpenAI announced a new visual ad format in ChatGPT on October 5, in a post titled "Building advertising for the way people use AI." The format will be tested first in image generation, with an initial group of advertisers in the US later this month. Ads will be clearly labeled and kept separate from the image a user creates, and OpenAI stresses that advertising does not influence ChatGPT's answers. Measurement is expanding at the same time, including conversion attribution partnerships and brand suitability evaluation; third parties such as DoubleVerify will help assess whether ad placements are suitable for brands, without access to users' private conversations. OpenAI says ChatGPT reaches 1.2 billion people each week, and ads are becoming a second revenue line next to subscriptions.

Schneider Electric to acquire PTC for $22.6 billion

Schneider Electric and PTC jointly announced a definitive agreement on October 5: Schneider will acquire PTC for $205 per share in cash, valuing PTC's equity at about $22.6 billion and its enterprise value at about $23.7 billion, a 42.3% premium to PTC's last closing price. PTC builds product design and engineering data software, and Schneider wants to add that design end to its energy and operations software portfolio to form an industrial software and AI business. The deal is expected to close in the third quarter of 2027, subject to PTC shareholder and regulatory approvals.
