The Muse free plan covers everyday use: you can chat, look things up, draft messages, and hand it light errands at no cost, with the allowance refreshing every week. When it runs out, wait for next week or upgrade. Check how much you use in a week before deciding whether the $20-a-month plan is worth it; do not pay first and ask later.
- The free plan runs Muse Spark 1.3. The Wonder model is rolling out to paying users first, so free users cannot use it yet; the latest model requires an upgrade.
- The allowance is counted weekly, not monthly. Mark Zuckerberg has publicly put the free weekly figure at about 100 million Muse tokens; the exact figure shown in the app is what counts. Once it is used up, you can only wait for next week's refresh or upgrade.
- Free is not a 30-day trial. Nothing locks when it expires; usage simply pauses until the allowance refreshes next week.
- Signing up requires you to be 18 or older and to have a payment card on file. Adding a card costs nothing; you are only charged when you upgrade or approve a payment.
Is the free plan enough? It depends on how you use it
For questions, research, email drafts, and trip planning, the free allowance is usually enough; you may not even use it up in a week. Heavy use is different: comparing prices across many sites, tidying files in bulk, or building web pages and videos burns through the allowance fast, and running several tasks in parallel burns it faster. If you keep hitting the limit a day or two into the week, your usage has outgrown the free plan.
Three signs it is time to upgrade
First, the allowance keeps running out mid-week and waiting for the refresh disrupts your work. Second, you often run long tasks, such as repeated research, code edits, or bulk document work. Third, you actually need what the Wonder model can do, not just a bigger allowance. The Power plan costs $20 a month with several times the free allowance; Maximum costs $100 a month and suits people who live in Muse all day. If you only overshoot occasionally, waiting for the refresh is cheaper.
Know the limits too: the free plan is not available in every region, so it will not work where Muse has not launched; and it does not guarantee every answer is right, so double-check anything important, especially decisions involving money or contracts. Try it free for a few weeks, learn your own usage, then decide whether to upgrade.
