Tencent Hunyuan Hy4 launches: vision and computer operation added for the first time, weights to be open-sourced

Tencent Hunyuan's Hy4 officially launched on 4 November 2026. Compared with Hy4 preview, released on 28 August, Tencent Hunyuan says the new version significantly expands pre-training and post-training, adds vision and computer operation for the first time, and brings Hy into the ranks of the strongest open models for the first time. That "strongest" label is Tencent Hunyuan's own claim, and how much it is worth depends on a shortcoming disclosed at the same time: a still-large gap to the top closed models.

It can read charts — and operate a computer

Hy4's vision capability links perception, reasoning and tool use, handling fine-grained image processing, complex chart analysis and mathematical visual reasoning. Computer operation uses the command line and the graphical interface together, and Tencent Hunyuan says it has been specially trained for professional software such as Blender and CAD and for long, cross-application tasks. Game development is the most visible outlet for the change: working with Tencent's Interactive Entertainment Group, Hy4 covers engines including UE, Unity and Godot as well as multiplayer, physics simulation and similar demands, with GameDev and GameLogic up 19.1% and 9.8% respectively over the preview.

First in a finance evaluation — but note whose test it was

Finance and office work are Hy4's other main focus. Together with Tencent Financial Technology, Tencent Hunyuan organised 213 experts and 153 leading external financial institutions to evaluate the model on 579 real finance tasks; Hy4 scored 3.04, first among open models and above DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash-1017 at 2.97. In its own tests, Tencent Hunyuan also says Hy4's hallucination rate fell from 15.76% for the preview to 5.45%. Both sets of figures come from evaluations organised by Tencent Hunyuan, not from independent third-party checks, and that qualification should travel with any citation.

Hy4 is live on Tencent Cloud and OpenRouter, and can be tried in CodeBuddy, WorkBuddy, Yuanbao and ima, at the same API prices as the preview: 6 yuan per million tokens for input and 18 yuan for output, with cached input at 0.3 yuan. The weights are planned to be open-sourced soon, with a model system card to follow, but Tencent Hunyuan has given no date or licence; Hy4 Flash is likewise only described as coming soon. The actual open-source terms will decide what the release means for self-hosting.
