Apple Intelligence Launches in China on November 4, With Qwen in Siri and Writing Tools

Apple Intelligence now has a firm timetable for its first launch in China. In a press release dated October 31, 2026, Apple said the first Apple Intelligence features will open for testing on November 4 with the latest iOS developer beta, and reach users in China with the official release of iOS 27.3 in December. The first wave covers Live Translation, Writing Tools, Visual Intelligence, the Clean Up photo tool and Genmoji, plus everyday features such as mail and notification summaries. Supported devices include iPhone 16 and later models, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone Air and iPhone Duo, with device and Siri languages set to English and Simplified Chinese.

Qwen sits inside three entry points

The partnership with Alibaba is the most substantial part of the announcement. Qwen is built into Siri, Writing Tools and Visual Intelligence: Siri can call on Qwen for certain requests, and users can ask it questions about photos, PDFs and presentation documents, while the Compose feature in Writing Tools can have Qwen draft original content from scratch. Signing in with a Qwen account, or with Sign in with Apple, gives access to Qwen inside Apple Intelligence. Users in China are not getting a standalone Qwen app, but model capabilities embedded in everyday system actions.

The first batch is the 2024 set of features

The limits matter. Apple said this update does not include Siri AI or the other next-generation Apple Intelligence features announced at WWDC 2026, and support for other platforms will follow once the necessary approvals are in place. For Alibaba, this is one of the largest system-level deployments Qwen has had to date. For users in China who have waited two years, what arrives first is a set of utility features: translation, rewriting, summaries, visual understanding and photo cleanup. The real test comes after November 4: the stability of the developer beta, how Qwen actually performs when called, and whether the December release lands on time will decide whether this late arrival closes the gap or merely opens the door.
