MiniMax Code launches Mini App: agent work now lives on pages that stay open

MiniMax Code announced Mini App in its official blog on October 22, 2026, and it is now available in local sessions of the MiniMax Code desktop app on macOS and Windows. A Mini App is a long-running application with a frontend and a backend: it installs as a plugin, and it and the Agent can call each other — the Agent can invoke its tools, and it can hand content back to the Agent for further work. The problem MiniMax is targeting is concrete: work scattered across separate conversations, so that coming back the next day means digging through history and re-explaining context before anything can continue.

How it differs from plugins and one-off generated pages

Plugins change the Agent itself; Mini Apps build applications on top of it. Each Mini App carries a miniapp.json manifest, a page and a Node.js backend, with its own persistent data directory; ports, authentication, credentials and rollback-capable publishing are all hosted by MiniMax Code, and the page sits in the conversation sidebar or pops out into its own window. The creation entry point is /miniapp-creator: say one sentence in chat, and the Agent first runs a read-only query against each data source to confirm it can get real data, then writes the page and backend, publishes the app, and checks the result with screenshots in the built-in browser. In other words, what it delivers is not a page frozen at generation time, but a small application that keeps updating and can keep working.

The first official examples

Among the first official Mini Apps, a stock dashboard pulls information scattered across Zsxq, Jinmen Finance and Tencent Docs into a single page; CadQuery Viewer lets you mark positions on a 3D model and send them back to the conversation for the Agent to change; and a self-drive route planner combines map routing, place search and image generation into one workspace. MiniMax Bot is itself a Mini App: it assembles a team, hands long-running tasks to background Agent conversations, then reviews and reports on the results, and most of its updates only require a plugin change rather than a MiniMax Code release; its source code is now in the open-source community repository. Community builds already include a token-usage dashboard broken down by date and model, a tool that draws Git history as a swimlane graph, and everyday apps such as a mood log that draws a daily inspiration card.

Check the permission boundaries before installing

MiniMax states the security rules plainly in the blog: account credentials are held by the host, and neither plugins nor pages can access them; connectors and Agent permissions must be declared in the manifest before they can be used; and when a page wants to pass something to the Agent, the content goes into your input box first so you can review and edit it before sending. The other warning matters just as much: Mini App code runs on your machine as you, so only install packages from sources you trust. For people already using MiniMax Code, this turns asking an agent to build a small tool from a one-off demo into a workspace that stays live and usable; whether it is worth moving daily work onto it is best decided by trying one high-frequency scenario for a week.
