ComfyUI adds NVIDIA VFX nodes: upscaling, frame generation and HDR in one pipeline

ComfyUI received an update on October 13, 2026 that is plainly aimed at professional film and VFX workflows. In a post on the official Comfy blog that day, NVIDIA's RTX video effects arrived in ComfyUI as custom nodes — video super resolution, frame generation and SDR-to-HDR conversion — with the models shipping alongside the nodes and running locally on an RTX GPU, so footage does not need to leave the machine for processing.

Three nodes, one post-production pipeline

The super resolution node upscales images and video up to 4x, to target widths of up to 8192 pixels, and can also denoise or deblur without changing resolution; its 19 modes cover typical compressed footage, clean high-bitrate sources and streaming or webcam material, most running from low to ultra quality. The frame generation node creates new frames between adjacent pairs at 2x to 16x, or at a specific timestep for slow motion and frame-rate conversion, with automatic shot-change detection. The HDR node converts SDR material to BT.2020 HDR with HLG or PQ output, adjustable peak luminance from 400 to 2000 nits, and a debanding pass on by default to smooth gradients such as skies. The recommended order is super resolution, then frame generation, then HDR, and the node pack includes a starter workflow for each node.

The EXR and color management upgrades are the real professional signal

Arguably more telling than the effects themselves is the EXR work shipped alongside. The advanced save node now writes half-float (16-bit) and full-float (32-bit) EXRs, the load node preserves superwhite values above 1.0 and negative values instead of silently clipping them, and the color space conversion node handles sRGB, scene-linear Rec.709, HDR HLG and PQ, ARRI LogC3 and ACEScct. Because browsers cannot display EXR, the new asset system attaches a JPEG preview to every EXR output and can open files in an HDR viewer. Getting started means updating ComfyUI to the latest version and installing the VFX nodes from the ComfyUI Manager; users without a local RTX GPU can try the example workflows on Comfy Cloud.

It fills the post-production gap AI video has been missing

Generating an AI video is no longer the hard part; the hard part is feeding the result into a serious post pipeline when the resolution is too low, the frame rate is wrong or the footage is still SDR. This release pulls those three fixes into a single node graph and connects the result to professional tools through EXR and standard color spaces. If you are still choosing a generator, our comparison of AI video generation tools for short video, ads and practice is a useful starting point — just remember to price in post-production like this, because generation is only the first step and deliverable output is the whole workflow.
