Many people use AI tools, such as ChatGPT and Midjourney, and sometimes find that the AI cannot fully understand what they mean. Why is that? Because the performance of AI is highly dependent on the instructions you input into it, which is what we often call prompts.
To put it bluntly, Prompt Engineering is to use appropriate language to carefully design the prompt words you input to the AI, so that the AI can understand your meaning more accurately and give a more satisfactory answer.
For example:
- If you simply say, "Help me write an article," the AI may not know exactly what you want.
- But if you tell it: "Please write a short science essay of about 300 words on why the sky is blue and the language is easy to understand", the AI will understand you accurately and write content that meets your requirements.
The key to prompt engineering is to express your needs more clearly and specifically, so that the AI knows:
- what to do?
- How to do it?
- In what format and style is it done?
To put it simply, prompt engineering is to communicate with AI in clear and specific language, so that AI can better complete what you want to do.
