xAI has announced that its flagship large language model, Grok 4, is now available for free to all users worldwide. Previously, Grok 4 was primarily available through SuperGrok or X Premium subscriptions, and now regular users can experience its power directly within the platform.
Users can access Grok 4 in two ways: in Auto mode, where complex issues are automatically routed to Grok 4, or in Expert mode, where all queries are forced to be handled by Grok 4. This flexible model provides more autonomy for users with different needs.
Officials said that this free opening is a limited-time event and has set a generous but limited usage quota - currently free users can make several Grok 4 queries within about 12 hours. Meanwhile, the higher-performance Grok 4 Heavy still requires a paid subscription to use.
It's worth noting that Grok's multimodal feature, Grok Imagine, is available to all users in the United States, while other regions still require a subscription to unlock image and video generation capabilities. xAI's move is seen as a significant step towards driving the global adoption of its AI tools.
