Setting up Grok Bot phone calls has three layers: plan, region, and task brief. Miss one and no call goes out. On October 25, 2026, Musk announced that Grok Bot can call for you, wait on hold, and come back with a call summary — but xAI still hasn't published a complete list of countries and plans. Run through the three checks below before setup.
Before setup: clear three hurdles
The first hurdle is the plan: Grok Bot is included in X Subscription Premium plans and above, not in Plus. First confirm your subscription includes Grok Bot — if not, upgrade first. The second hurdle is region: according to tester reports, it currently works calling US numbers from the US, except in Washington and Illinois. There is no clear announcement for mainland China or other regions — don't plan as if it's already available worldwide. The third hurdle is the task brief: tell it directly who to call, what it's about, what to ask, and what counts as done. For example: "Call this restaurant and ask whether a table for two is free Friday at 7pm. If yes, report back to me — don't book directly." The more complete the information, the less it has to guess; give the number, name, and order number up front, or it will stop and wait for you to fill in the gaps.
Two red lines — and one easy-to-miss trap
First: before every call it asks you to confirm who it's calling and what it will say, and only dials after you approve — it won't call without you knowing. Second: once connected, it identifies itself as a virtual assistant calling on your behalf, and the call may be recorded. It can't be used for marketing calls or bulk dialing — xAI's terms say so. And there's one easy-to-miss trap: the Grok Bot plan itself doesn't include a phone line. For it to actually dial, you need to connect a calling tool, such as a dial bot from the Marketplace. Third-party lines like Bland cost about $14.99 for the first month and $29.99 a month after — that's extra money, not included in the subscription. The announcement that Grok Bot started making calls for you only describes the capability — the line has to be added separately.
