There are two official routes to export and back up Muse conversations: one sits in Settings under Data controls — Download your Muse data — and gives you a copy of your chats, files, and other agent information; the other sits in Account Center, under Your information and permissions, where you create an information export, and gives you a copy of your account information. The two routes export different things, so first decide whether you want to back up conversation content or account details.
Step 1: Download from Data controls
Open Settings, choose Data controls, tap Download your Muse data, then tap Download to confirm. The exported copy contains chats and files, and works as a backup before tidying up, switching devices, or making major changes. The export is only a copy: after exporting, the conversations stay where they are and are not deleted by the export. If you only need one conversation segment, copy and save it first — that is faster than exporting the whole library.
Step 2: Tell export, memory deletion, and reset apart
Deleting memory and exporting are two different things. Asking Muse in a conversation to forget something, or managing memory in Settings, deals with the information it has remembered about you; if you want to delete a single message or a side chat from questions already sent, you can delete it individually in the conversation. Reset is the most thorough step: Settings, then Data controls, then Reset returns Muse to its original state and permanently deletes all information, including chat history, files, and active tasks. A reset cannot be undone, so always export a backup first. The official help centre also warns that after deletion, Muse may still remember what it learned from deleted content — an exported backup does not replace cleaning up memory.
What to watch after exporting
The exported file contains your conversations and files; keep it separate from ordinary files and do not forward it casually. After switching devices, first confirm the conversations open on the new device before tidying local files on the old one. The export feature solves “keep a copy”; it does not solve “make Muse forget” — do not mix the two goals.
