This performance review self-evaluation prompt is for anyone who has to submit a self-evaluation but stares at a blank document, unable to remember what they actually did: paste in your role, review period, and work records, and the AI will organize them into a data-backed draft built around "what you did, what resulted, and what to change next." You only revise the facts and the tone instead of starting from zero.
Copy this self-evaluation prompt and paste in your work records
You are a strict but fair manager. Write a performance self-evaluation using only the work records given below; do not invent results or figures that are not mentioned.
Role: {{Role}}
Review period: {{Review period}}
Work records:
{{Work records}}
Write a self-evaluation of no more than 600 words, in three parts: 1. Main work and results, with each result tied to a verifiable figure or fact; 2. Shortcomings and causes, covering only shortcomings visible in the records, without guessing at attitude problems; 3. Next improvements, with two or three concrete actions and deadlines.
Requirements: keep the tone plain, without exaggerated adjectives; where a figure is not in the records, write "not provided" instead of estimating; finish by listing three facts I need to check.What you put in the curly braces decides whether the self-evaluation sounds like you
| Placeholder | How to fill it in | Example |
|---|---|---|
| {{Role}} | State your role and main responsibilities; no need for the full company name | Product operations, responsible for event planning and data reviews |
| {{Review period}} | Give the start and end dates, and note it if the period spans quarters | July to September 2026, Q3 |
| {{Work records}} | Paste work, results, and figures in date order; the more specific, the better | Launched 3 events in July; registrations 18% higher than the previous quarter |
The work records are the part of the prompt most worth your care. Pasting only "responsible for day-to-day operations" leaves the AI with nothing but empty phrases; pasting "launched 3 events, registrations up 18%, one delay caused by a supplier rescheduling" gives every result a source and makes the cause credible. If you cannot remember a figure, write "not provided" rather than letting the AI invent one that merely looks precise.
Check these three things in the draft before you submit it
- Do the figures match? Check every figure in the self-evaluation against the original records one by one, and recalculate any percentage the AI converted. One wrong figure undermines the credibility of the whole document.
- Is ownership clear? For team work, state your own part. Writing only "led the delivery" invites a follow-up question from your manager; "responsible for the data review part" is safer.
- Does it sound like you? Cut anything too exaggerated, restore the factual basis where the wording is too modest, and rewrite anything that does not read naturally instead of keeping the AI's phrasing.
Work records are usually scattered around, so first use the weekly report prompt to organize what you did each week, then paste the result into this prompt. A self-evaluation covers your own work, while the project retrospective prompt covers what an entire project got right and wrong; do not mix the two. Before pasting records, remove ID numbers, salary details, passwords, and similar information, and keep a separate copy of the original records.
