Muse Still Remembers You After Deleting Chats? Delete the Memory First, Then Check

AI Q&A • Admin • • 10 views

If Muse still remembers you after you deleted a conversation, it is because conversation history and memory are two different things. Deleting a conversation removes that chat itself; the facts and preferences Muse learned from it live in memory and do not disappear with it. Meta's own help page says the same: after you delete something, Muse may still remember information it learned from what you deleted. The right approach is to clean up both places, then check back.

Follow these four steps. First, tell it directly in the conversation — for example, "Forget my home address" or "Forget all my medical appointments" — being as specific as possible, rather than just saying "forget me." Second, open the memory yourself and check: tap the assistant icon, then Identity, then Memory, where you can edit or delete entries in the memory file directly; remember to save after deleting. Third, test it by asking, "What do you still remember about me?" and see whether it really forgot, focusing on the two or three items you care about most. Fourth, if it learned something from a connected app, first ask it to forget the related content, delete any files and conversations built from that data, and only then disconnect — disconnecting only blocks future data and does not clear what is already remembered.

Two switches that are easy to confuse — do not press the wrong one

Turning off "Help improve our AI models" stops Meta from using your conversations to train models; it does not make Muse forget you, and memory stays in place. The way to wipe everything clean is a reset: in Settings, then Data controls, choose Reset, and chat history, files, and active tasks will all be permanently deleted — download a backup of your data first. Reset is a last resort; when you only want to forget one or two things, the first three steps are enough, and there is no need to reset straight away. When deleting memory entries, do not delete only the one whose title looks right: the same person or matter may be recorded in several places, so search by keyword and check each one, or the entry you missed will surface again next time. Before telling Muse an address, health details, or financial information in the future, first ask yourself one question: am I willing to let it remember this long term? Only say it if the answer is yes.
