AI Slides Keep Coming Out Messy? Fix the Structure First, Then Generate Section by Section

AI Q&A • Admin • • 10 views

When AI-generated slides keep coming out messy, the tool is usually not the problem; you gave it too much content at once. The AI does not know which sentence is a title, which passage needs two slides, or which image needs white space, so the layout naturally gets more and more cramped. Fix the structure first, then generate in sections, and the mess becomes much less likely.

First judge: is the structure messy, or the styling?

Messy structure shows up as the wrong order of content: the conclusion hidden on slide three, examples longer than the point itself, three topics crammed onto one slide. Messy styling shows up as font sizes jumping up and down, text covering images, and uneven white space. Messy structure needs an outline fix; messy styling needs a template and word-count fix. Tell them apart before you start, and do not keep tweaking the styling of a deck whose structure is itself messy.

Generate in sections, not the whole deck at once

First ask the AI for an outline only: one title per slide, no more than three points per slide, and a note on each slide about whether it needs an image. Once the outline is confirmed, generate the content slide by slide, giving only the material for that one slide each time. Give hard constraints when generating: titles under twelve characters, each bullet under fifteen characters, no more than five lines per slide. The shorter the content, the less likely the AI is to break the layout by cramming words in. Split long text across slides; more slides are better than one stuffed slide.

Fix the template and master first, then generate

Once you pick a template, do not switch halfway. Switching makes the AI reinterpret font sizes and layouts, and pages you already fixed may change too. Before generating, look at the template's master: where the title, body text and images sit, and how much space images take. Use the template's own image placeholders, and do not let the AI add a large image inside the text area. Use only the template's default font sizes, colours and fonts throughout; if you change one thing manually, check whether every slide has drifted.

Rework against a checklist after generating

First read through: can each slide title explain on its own what the slide is about? Delete slides whose titles do not match their content. Then check three things: whether text overflows its box, whether images cover text, and whether page numbers and footers are misaligned. If text overflows, cut words first; do not shrink the font first, because shrinking the font breaks the hierarchy of the whole deck. Keep the last pass for thumbnails: view all slides side by side, and regenerate individually any slide whose style is inconsistent or whose white space differs sharply.
