Google Is Shutting Down Jules: Read-Only on November 11, Folding Into Antigravity
In a Jules shutdown notice published on October 29, Google confirmed that the asynchronous coding agent will shut down on December 31, 2026, with what it learned folded into the developer platform Antigravity. Users have less than two weeks to finish active sessions, after which the service becomes read-only.
### A shutdown in three steps
Jules launched in December 2024 to handle coding jobs developers would rather not do themselves: connected to a GitHub repository, it fixed bugs, wrote tests, and opened pull requests inside cloud virtual machines. Google said Jules began as an experiment.
Under the timetable in the notice, sessions can still be completed before November 11; after November 11, Jules becomes read-only, viewable but no longer able to do agent work; and on December 31 it shuts down.
### Export early: memories will not move by themselves
Code is not a worry: code, branches, and pull requests already live in GitHub. What exists only on the Jules side is settings, environment variables, scheduled tasks, repository memories, environment setup scripts, and complete session records. The export method is to install Jules Tools (`npm install -g google/jules` and sign in with `jules login`), then paste the export prompt from the notice into a command-line coding agent; the data lands in a local `~/jules-export` folder, organized by repository and session.
Two points deserve attention: the export contains the real values of environment variables, so do not put the folder in a code repository; and the GitHub account must be confirmed as connected, or the export will contain no repository data. The notice does not mention automatic migration of memories to Antigravity, so exporting is the only safe way to keep them.
### Plugin Marketplace launches the same day; Antigravity takes over
On the same day as the shutdown notice, Google launched a Plugin Marketplace for Antigravity. A plugin bundles skills, MCP servers, rules, hooks, and custom agents into one package that installs, updates, and switches on or off in one click, removing manual setup. Installation can be done in the Customizations panel of the Antigravity app or in the terminal with `agy plugin install `.
The first plugins come from vendors including Atlassian, Figma, Stripe, and Databricks, alongside Google's own Docs, Sheets, Drive, and Calendar plugins. When Jules-style background tasks will appear in Antigravity, Google only said the work is underway, with no date given.
### What it means for developers
For longtime users, the substance of the change is doing the same work in a different place: the approach stays, the vehicle becomes Antigravity, and the cost lands on exporting and rebuilding workflows. For teams still watching, the Plugin Marketplace matters more than the shutdown itself, because it decides whether Antigravity can connect to real toolchains without fiddly configuration.
