AI-Recommended Restaurant Doesn't Exist? Verify in Three Steps First

AI Q&A • Admin • • 2 views

If an AI-recommended restaurant cannot be found in search, do not just head over: AI can invent restaurant names, treat closed restaurants as still open, or mix up branch information. Three minutes of checking before leaving can save a wasted trip.

Step 1: Search the name plus address on another platform

Search the restaurant name on maps and review platforms at the same time, ideally adding the street or shopping mall name. Circling only within the AI's description proves nothing; one search on another platform quickly shows whether the name is invented or real.

Step 2: Check the date of the latest review

Once you find the place, do not just look at the rating — check when the newest review was posted. If the latest review is six months or a year old, the restaurant has probably closed or changed its name, and the AI is using old information.

Step 3: Call ahead for important occasions

For hosting, dates, or banquets where being late is not an option, call before leaving to confirm opening hours and whether a reservation is needed. If the number is unreachable or disconnected, the restaurant is most likely problematic — picking another is safer.

How to ask more reliably next time

Next time you ask AI for recommendations, request directly: “Only recommend restaurants that can be found on a map, and give the mall or street.” The more specific the conditions, the less room for invention — but even then, the pre-departure check cannot be skipped.
