The X Subscription launches: Grok, Cursor and X Premium on one bill

On October 12, 2026, xAI used its official news page to introduce The X Subscription, merging Grok, Grok Bot, Cursor and X Premium into a single plan that the company says will reach everyone globally over the next few days. It is the first time the AI industry has put a chat assistant, a coding agent and a social platform membership into one paid plan: from that day, new customers can only buy the new plan, while standalone SuperGrok, Cursor and X Premium subscriptions are closed to new sign-ups.

Five tiers, and the $30 plan is the one that matters

The plan comes in five tiers. The free tier offers daily Grok access plus a starter allowance for Cursor's coding agents. Limited Plus, at $8 a month, adds more Grok and Cursor usage along with an X checkmark, creator tools and fewer ads. The $30-a-month Premium tier is the comparison point xAI pushes hardest: it combines SuperGrok, Cursor Pro and X Premium+, which used to cost $90 a month bought separately, with four times the Plus tier's usage. Above that, Super costs $100 a month with 15 times the usage, and Ultra $200 a month with 50 times. xAI stresses that every new tier delivers more usage of its own models per dollar than the plan it replaces, and that paid tiers include at least twice as much coding usage with its models as the comparable Cursor plan.

The shared usage pool is the real substance of the merger

More consequential than the price cuts is the change in how usage is billed. Paid tiers include one shared pool of Grok model usage that works across the Grok apps, the Grok tab on X and Cursor: allowance you do not spend in one place can be spent in another. In effect, the subscription no longer sells membership in a single product, but a bundle of model usage that can be shifted freely between chatting, creating and coding. The boundaries matter too: third-party models inside Cursor are available only on Premium and above, billed separately at API list prices through top-ups, outside the shared pool. Team plans cost the same per seat as individual ones, with what xAI says is three times the coding usage of the older Cursor Teams, plus SSO, admin controls and consolidated billing.

Existing users can sit still; everyone else should do the usage math

Current SuperGrok, Cursor and X Premium subscribers do not have to change anything: their price and features stay as they are. Those who want to switch can link their three accounts in billing settings, get a tier recommendation based on their current plans, and receive a prorated refund for unused time on the old ones. xAI says legacy plans will eventually be migrated, but there is no timeline yet and notice will come first. For everyone else, the test is simple: if you mainly use one product, the $30 tier genuinely lowers the entry price versus the old $90 combination; if you lean heavily on third-party models in Cursor, that spend still sits outside the pool, so the total bill may not fall. The deeper signal is strategic: having absorbed Cursor, xAI is now using the social platform's distribution and a single bill to fight the price war that neither standalone models nor standalone coding tools can win alone.
