Claude Adds Dashboards and Motion: Live Data Boards and Animated Explainers

Claude Adds Dashboards and Motion: Live Data Boards and Animated Explainers

AI information • Admin • • 21 views

Claude gained two beta features on October 8, 2026, announced on Anthropic's official blog: Dashboards turns company data into live dashboards that keep themselves current, and Motion turns reports and charts into editable animated explainers. In the same announcement, Docs, Slides, and Design left beta and opened to every plan, while the standalone Claude Design site will fold into the main app on December 14.

Dashboards: no more waiting in the data team's queue

Asking a business question usually means filing a ticket and waiting for someone to write SQL. Dashboards instead connects to a company data platform — the official list includes Amazon Redshift, BigQuery, ClickHouse, Databricks, and Snowflake, plus CRM tools such as Salesforce — and lets you ask in plain language. Claude builds the dashboard and keeps it updated as the data changes. Every number can be clicked to reveal the query behind it, and each chart shows when its data was last refreshed. When a question needs deeper work, the dashboard can be sent on to Amplitude, Grafana, Hex, Mixpanel, Omni, Perplexity, PostHog, or Sigma, with Looker, monday.com, and Tableau listed as coming. Dashboards is in beta for paid plans, and enterprise admins must switch it on — it is off by default.

Motion: animation built as code, not generated video

Motion takes a quarterly report, a board chart, or a product walkthrough and produces an animation that plays like a short video, editable in the editor or by asking Claude, and exportable as MP4. The key detail is how it works: Motion does not call a video generation model. Claude writes code that animates your text, charts, shapes, and images, so any word, number, or timing can still be changed, and there is no AI-generated footage or people. For further work, projects can move to Adobe, Descript, HeyGen, Higgsfield, invideo, Luma AI, or Runway, with Canva and Captions to follow. Motion is in beta for Team and Enterprise plans.

Also in this release: the trio graduates, Design's site closes

Docs, Slides, and Design have already been used to create more than 45 million documents, decks, and designs, and they now leave beta, free plans included. Enterprise additions include CMEK support for Artifacts, admin control over templates, real-time co-editing with your team and Claude, sharing outside the organization, format-preserving PowerPoint and PDF exports, decks that open in Google Slides as editable files, and editing in the mobile app. One date matters: the standalone Claude Design site stays up only until December 14, 2026. Team design systems should be migrated from the Artifacts page before then, and chats and comments in the standalone version will not carry over.

What actually changes

Both features attack the same kind of waiting: for someone to chart the data, for someone to animate the idea. Anthropic's answer is not a bigger model but an output format built to be checked and edited — every dashboard number carries its query, and every animation frame is code you can change. The user's job shifts accordingly: less judging whether the result looks right, more verifying that the query and the numbers are right. Enterprises have one chore first: both features are off by default at the organization level, so confirm the admin settings before deciding which data sources to connect.
