The update is rolling out worldwide with the latest app version starting today.
Here is what each change means. First, the models. Astra is currently OpenAI's most capable model, while Sol and Luna are the smaller models for everyday tasks, released recently alongside the GPT-6 family (OpenAI launches GPT-6 Sol and Luna (/article/2042-openai-tui-chu-gpt-6-sol-he-luna-api-jia-ge-zhi-jiang-yi-ban-miao-zhun-ri-chang)). All three can now power voice reasoning: hard problems go to Astra, everyday tasks to the cheaper Sol and Luna. Second, plugins. Email, calendar, and Slack plugins previously worked only in text conversations — now you can check your schedule, read email, and send messages just by speaking. That was the biggest gap voice users complained about. Third, the Work voice entry point. ChatGPT Work is the cloud agent system OpenAI launched in July, built to let agents run long tasks for you in the cloud; now users can speak in the browser and directly generate documents, decks, websites, and spreadsheets.
Why this upgrade matters
Voice has always been the most natural way to interact with AI, but voice mode had a hard limitation: it could chat, not do real work. Plugins and Work fill that gap — voice turns from "chatting" into an entry point that can call tools and run long tasks. The rollout depends on app-store version pushes, so arrival times may differ by region by a few days.
