How to configure Hermes Agent Matrix?

The most stable way to connect to the Matrix is to create a separate Matrix account for the bot first, and then use the access token to allocate it to~/.hermes/.env. It supports DM, rooms, threads, files and optional end-to-end encryption, but novices first run through ordinary plaintext rooms before torturing E2EE.

Basic steps

Create a bot account on your own homeserver or matrix.org

1. Find the access token in Element's settings, or get it through the Matrix login API.
2. Runhermes gateway setupand select Matrix.
3. Enter homeserver, access token, and allowed user ID.
4. Launchhermes gatewayand invite the bot into the room to test.

Manual configuration of key points

_CODE_BLOCK_0__Group rooms require to reply by default; if you want proactive messages and cron output, use/sethome_after entering the room or set_CODE_INLINE_5___.

In a word: Matrix configuration runs through homeserver, token, and allowed users first, and then handles the encrypted room.
