Hermes Agent connects to iMessage, which is actually bridged through BlueBubbles Server. The official documentation is clear: you need to have a Mac running BlueBubbles Server properly, and then give BLUEBUBBLES_SERVER_URL and BLUEBUBBLES_PASSWORD to Hermes.
How to configure
- Install BlueBubbles Server and complete the Apple ID sign-in on your Mac.
- Make a note of the server URL and password in the BlueBubbles API settings.
- Run
hermes gateway setup, or writeBLUEBUBBLES_SERVER_URL,BLUEBUBBLES_PASSWORDmanually. - Priority is given to authorized users with DM pairing, or fill in the
BLUEBUBBLES_ALLOWED_USERSmanually. - Start the gateway and send a message from iMessage for testing.
Who is it for?
It's suitable for people who want to integrate Hermes into their iMessage system, but only if you accept that "this is not a cloud-only solution" and then maintain the BlueBubbles Server itself. Its strength is to reuse the out-of-the-box iMessage experience, which is not the most operationally efficient way.
In a word: BlueBubbles doesn't have a threshold for Hermes, but whether you're willing to maintain a Mac that will be online for a long time.
