Hermes Agent itself is an open source project, and the official website documentation page is marked with the MIT License, so the software itself can be used for free. But whether it actually costs money to run depends on the model, server and external tools you receive.
Where may be charged
- Model Fees: Providers like OpenRouter, OpenAI, Anthropic, and Nous Portal may be billed on a subscription or token basis.
- Server fees: If you put Hermes Agent on a VPS, cloud VM, or container platform for long-term operation, there will be machine costs.
- Web/search tools: Firecrawl, Browserbase, some search APIs may charge.
- Chat platform: Telegram bots are usually free, but SMS, Twilio, and some enterprise platforms may have platform costs.
How to save money for novices
Run the CLI locally first, and only connect to a low-cost provider. and other confirmations do require remote chat, Docker, browser automation, and then VPS and paid search services.
