NotebookLM Why did you change Google Docs and it still references old content? This is actually an official design, not a simple synchronization failure. Google mentions in Add or discover new sources for your notebook that NotebookLM will keep a static copy of the time you uploaded it by default; If it's a Drive file, you'll only see Sync with Drive if the conditions are met.
Why does someone have a sync button and someone doesn't
The official is straightforward: NotebookLM will only show the sync portal if you have write access to the original Google Drive file. Therefore, in many team collaboration scenarios, you can clearly view documents, but because the permission is only viewed, you cannot see the sync button, and you end up mistakenly thinking that NotebookLM is not updating.
More stable handling
- Make sure this is from Drive, not a normal uploaded copy.
- Then check whether you have write permissions on the original file.
- If there is no sync entry, re-add the source with the new version.
In other words, not all sources in NotebookLM automatically "follow the original text". It's more like grabbing a copy before analyzing it, and only when the conditions are met will the Drive document have a chance to synchronize.
